Former forestry head denies wrongdoing, govt committee says rule was broken
Plodprasop Surasawadi, permanent secretary for Natural Resources and the
Environment, is under investigation over shipments of tigers to China when he was
director general of the Forestry Department, government officials said
yesterday.
Denying any wrongdoing, Plodprasop said he was prepared to sue his accusers
once his innocence is established.
A total of 11 shipments have been made under a section of the law authorising
the export of endangered species from Thailand, and only two shipments were
made during his tenure at the department. None of Plodprasop's predecessors
were accused of the same wrongdoing, he said.
