AR-News: (Botswana) Councillor pleads guilty to poaching charge

TSHABONG - The Botswana Democratic Party councillor in the Kgalagadi District 
who last Thursday appeared before the Tshabong Magistrate Court arraigned on 
a charge of poaching has pleaded guilty. 
According to evidence led before court, Abathine Kabatlhophane is alleged to 
have on February 11, this year, unlawfully hunted and killed two hartebeests 
at KD II hunting area near Zutshwa settlement without any authorisation. 
By hunting the two hartebeests during a closed hunting season, Kabatlhophane 
has contravened Section 56 of the Wildlife Conservation and National Parks Act 
of 1992. 
He is said to have used Okapi and table knives to kill the two wild animals 
while he used a donkey as a mode of transport to ferry the meat.
