Wisconsin Pork Producers to Attend National Forum
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/01/2004

Wisconsin is planning to send several local representatives to the National
Pork Industry Forum, scheduled for March 4-6 in Atlanta, Georgia. This year's
National Pork Board Delegates include Deb Gay and John Lader. Gay will also
serve as one of Wisconsin's NPPC Delegates, along with Doug Wolf. And the
state's representatives at the Forum include Mike and Judy Wehler, Lynn and Pat
Harrison, Brian Klubertanz, and Keri Retallick.
Pork Act Delegates will discuss some of the key issues and challenges facing
today's pork industry as they take action on several resolutions during the
annual business meeting.
"Forum is a key time for all who pay the Pork Checkoff to participate in the
business of how to use those investments," said Lynn Harrison, a pork producer
from Elk Mound, and chair of the Pork Checkoff Resolutions Committee. "So
far, we have received nine resolutions. Four of these deal with the Pork Checkoff
rate and pork industry organizations, while others relate to Checkoff
priorities in communication, dealing with animal rights/animal welfare organizations,
managing pork export activities and direction of Checkoff in diet/health
issues."
Meanwhile, Mike Wehler of Plain will be recognized by the National Pork
Producers Council during the National Pork Forum by being inducted into the Pork
Industry Hall of Fame. Part of an elite group of just two other pork producers,
Mike served as president of both the National Pork Producers Council and the
National Pork Board.
