IT is hypocritical to care for native animal welfare while causing suffering
to introduced species, says an animal welfare group.

Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania yesterday backed a campaign demanding humane
treatment for feral animals.
"Our concern is the suffering of any animal no matter what category humans
have placed it in," said AACT spokeswoman Yvette Watt.
The comments follow a Sunday Tasmanian report of a campaign by Animals
Australia, which said the label vermin gave a green light to using 1080 poison,
gassing, shooting and starving.
Ms Watt said yesterday steel-jawed traps were banned partly because of the
suffering they caused.
"Ultimately humans have caused the problems and we should therefore be
obliged to find a humane solution," she said.
Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife officer Nick Mooney said the idea all species
could live together was a "utopian fantasy".
Mr Mooney said looking after individual animals' rights would increase the
threat to Tasmanian species by hampering control efforts.
