The scientific world was divided on Friday night after the Royal Society
published a report claiming animal research is - and always will be - essential
for human welfare.
In a fresh broadside against anti-vivisection groups, the United Kingdom's
national academy of science says virtually every medical breakthrough of the
past century has came from experiments involving animals. Any future advances in
medicine will require similar tests, the society adds.
