Dear Supporters,
Warm greetings from Cameroon,
Today we had a successful operation. we arrested in
Yaounde an Ivory dealer from Douala with 12 tusks.
Galit, our assistant Manager, was the one in charge
of intelligence and planning the operation.
In fact it was intelligence work of half a day in
Douala that brought us now the second operation.
Only a week ago we decided we should go with another
operation before the month ends. We do not have the
funds for regular operations but this one had a
specific importance. We have reached an agreement with
the attorney general for a new procedure for wildlife
cases to be opened - a rapid trial. We wanted to
verify it and exercise the system.
For now the operation went smoothly and the subject is
locked, this time in the court itself.
We lost one of the LAGA family - Christopher Ndong-
who has been our first agent (also the agent behind
Kita's operation). He fell sick and died in hospital
due to a lung failure.
I am moving now to his village upcountry to pay my
respect and attend his burial ceremonies.
On Sunday we will take our team and their families
to the forest to see the Gorillas and chimps they
helped saving. This will be in the memory of
Christopher.
To those who don't know - I will be participating in
the next CITES meeting as a member of the governmental
delegation (and not as an observer NGO).
This is a great achievement as it is the first time
in Cameroon for a person outside the government to
represent it in a meeting of the Convention of
International Trade in Endangered species and rare
to happen in all of Africa.
All the best,
Ofir
