SOUTH Australia's Parliament has passed a Bill making it illegal to eat cats 
and dogs.

While the serving of cats and dogs in restaurants in the state was already 
illegal, State Parliament's upper house today passed a Bill banning the 
consumption of the animals anywhere. 
Under the legislation, any person caught eating a cat or dog could be fined 
$1250. 
The Bill was opposed in the lower house by Greens MP Kris Hanna, who said the 
legislation was founded on racism. 
"It plays upon unfounded fears about people from our own cultures who have 
different eating habits to our own," Mr Hanna said.
