Edgecombe County authorities on Wednesday filed animal cruelty charges
against four suspects arrested earlier this week in connection with a dog-fighting
training center on Calhoun Road.
Timothy Lafon Murphy, 27, of the 700 block of Marlee Drive and 23-year-old
Rodale Detrice Cutler of the 1700 block of Windsor Drive were charged with 32
counts of animal cruelty and 32 counts of failure to vaccinate animals.
Joseph Donnelle Hussey, 18, of the 800 block of Tyan Street and Roy Junior
Tillery, 47, of Calhoun Road also were charged with 32 counts of animal cruelty.
The charges stem from a dog-fighting training center discovered behind
Tillery's house off N.C. 43 during a Monday search for stolen property. Authorities
found 32 pit bulls chained and kenneled, some of whom were emaciated and
battle-scarred from fights with other dogs. Detective also found a graveyard
scattered with dog skulls and other dog bones.
