MUMBAI: They may have wanted it to be 'Chicken Shining', but a roasting is
more like what they got.
Faced with a sharp drop in chicken sales from fears of the avian flu
that's affected Southeast Asia, Mumbai's poultry industry was hoping for a
celebrity launch to their campaign to persuade customers that Indian
chicken was safe and that they should eat more of it.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta), the radical animal
rights NGO crashed the party with their slogans and an actor wearing
chicken costume. There's an easy solution for bird flu, they told
onlookers just stop eating chicken. "The poultry industry treats
chickens very badly," said Dilpreet Beasley, Peta's campaign co-ordinator.
"And in any case we can show that a rising consumption of chicken is
linked with an increased risk of heart disease." Avian flu was the perfect
reason for dropping the chicken habit entirely, Peta urged.
