ANIMAL rights campaigners yesterday said they were disappointed and
frustrated by MSPs who decided against a ban on snaring.

The Scottish Parliament’s environment and rural development committee
voted down a bid by Dr Eleanor Scott, a Green MSP, for a total ban on
snares to be inserted in the Nature Conservation (Scotland) Bill.

The UK is one of just five European Union countries that still permits
snaring. But Allan Wilson, the deputy minister for environment and rural
development, said: "Snares should remain available to land managers as a
legitimate method of dealing with pests, but they must be used responsibly
and professionally in accordance with the law."
