The Canadian government has finally taken out the most contentious part of 
the federal BSE aid package that was introduced in November.
Agriculture Minister Bob Speller announced last week that the provision that 
producers had to slaughter their animals in order to receive money from the 
program was being taken out and that money could soon start flowing to producers 
that have had animals over 30 months as of Sept. 30.
Speller also stated that producers will get the maximum allowable payment 
under the program. Cattle producers will now get a flat rate of $320 per animal 
when the provincial contributions are taken into account.
