Hi all, I am posting this on behalf of Jane Marchand. I did not have an
answer for her -- not my area of expertise -- but I thought somebody on this
list might.

Subject: "Fee to high to rescue a shelter dog"
Need some advice. This letter appeared in my local newspaper's letter to
the editor. I'd like to email a letter pointing out the reasons why fee or
donations are necessary. Where can I get help with all the various reasons
& statistics. I checked your site but maybe I missed it.
Thanks,

Fee too high to rescue a shelter dog
Editor, the Record:
After the loss of my dog not too long ago, I decided it was time to give
another dog a good home. When I inquired about adopting again through the
SPCA in Stroudsburg, I found that the fee was $75.
I find this outrageous to charge this much money to save a dog from
being destroyed. I thought there had to be some compassion for helpless
animals that involved the shelters and the vets.
Obviously not. It is just business as usual. I suppose destroying the
animal is a priority rather than finding them a good home.
I also thought the SPCA were initials for the Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals. Again I find my thinking wrong.
