Six orphaned seals reared in captivity are enjoying their first days of
freedom and are faring well after being released back into the wild, the RSPCA said
today.

Four common seals were tagged with special transmitters and released back
into the Wash, off the Norfolk-Lincolnshire coast, on Friday last week. Another
two were released yesterday.

The tags record the duration and depth of dives as well as the seals’
whereabouts in the critical first few months on their own, transmitting the data back
to RSPCA officers via satellite.

In its first update on the seals’ activities, the animal charity said today
it was “very pleased” with their progress so far.
