[from Clarksville Leaf Chronicle]
In ancient Mediterranean civilizations, plant-based food sources were key
in regional diets. Plant foods are healthier because they provide more
fiber and don't contain the artery-clogging fats that can be found in meat.
The Mediterranean diet pyramid emphasizes plant-based versus animal-based
foods.
...
Two other diet pyramids based on traditional cultural eating patterns --
Latin and Vegetarian -- also were created by the Harvard School of Public
Health, Oldways Preservation and Exchange Trust and other institutions.
