ANIMAL rights campaigners had a stand-off with supporters of hare coursing 
yesterday as the UK's largest annual event of the sport began.
About 150 protesters traded insults with the crowd in an hour-long protest at 
the controversial 157th Waterloo Cup in Lancashire.
More than 100 police officers separated the sides, who took up standpoints on 
either side of a barbed wire fence.
About 7000 people attended the first day of the three-day event in Great 
Altcar, in which 64 greyhounds from all over Britain and Ireland compete.
