The city zoo, which lost a lion to an unusual disease this year, plans to
get two new lions by spring.
Jay Christie, the zoo's executive director, said Tuesday that he has been in
talks with a zoo official in Texas who places lions in zoos across North
America and that it's likely Racine will get the new lions by May 1.
Normally, it takes longer to replace a dead lion. But after the death of a
15-year-old male lion named Budaka in early January, the Racine Zoo was left
with one lion: an 8-year-old named Savannah who is Budaka's daughter.
