>From recycling copier paper to cleaning up natural areas in the county,
students at Columbian High School are making an impact on the environment.
Green Sunday, an extracurricular organization at the high school, has been
making an environmental difference inside and outside the school for the past 15
years. Begun by retired teacher Bob Overholt, the group's adviser now is
science teacher Tom Bartlett.
In school, the group recycles copy paper, newspapers and pop cans. The paper,
Bartlett said, is picked up at the school every Tuesday and a record of the
tonnage they have gathered in kept. Aluminum cans are taken to Rosenblatt's and
the amount raised helps to fund the group's other activities.
