On February 27 (Friday) please fax a letter to the Japanese officials listed
below. Urge them to permanently stop the Drive Fisheries.

February 27 is the last day for the dolphin drive in Taiji. We are using
this date as an opportunity to let Japanese officials know that the
international pressure against Drive Fisheries will not stop -- until the
Drives end.

Contact information, points to make in letters and resources below.

If appropriate, include your organization's membership information (number
of members, number of countries represented, etc) and your personal
expertise or interest in this issue.

Points to include:
-- Ask officials to take immediate action to permanently stop the slaughter
of dolphins and whales in Taiji, Futo and all coastal fishing villages in
Japan.

-- The drive hunts are a disaster from both an environmental and a humane
perspective. The slaughter of entire families and communities of whales and
dolphins have had a devastating effect from a conservation perspective.

-- It is in Japan's economic and international interests to cease the drive
fisheries.

-- Drive Fisheries are cruel, unscientific, and unsustainable.

-- Recent scientific studies have shown that dolphin meat is seriously
contaminated with PCBs, heavy metals and other toxins. Dolphin meat exceeds
contaminant levels set for human consumption.

-- Reverse any law or regulation which makes it illegal to photograph, film,
or videotape the dolphin slaughter.

- No public relations campaign can hide what is occurring on and off the
coasts of Japan. As the Japanese and international public learn more about
this killing, the outrage will grow. The public outrage concerning the
drives will not go away.
