American designers agree on one thing for next fall: The fur will fly.

Nearly every show during Fashion Week featured a touch of mink, fox or
sable. Some designers went all the way, with full-length fur coats, mink
ponchos, capelets, shawls and wraps. Others added only a touch of fur to
collars or along the hems and borders of coats.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals took notice and staged a
protest on the steps leading to the tents at Bryant Park, where most shows
were held. PETA spokeswoman Lisa Franzetta said she believes the designers
who showed fur are out of sync with their customers.

"A lot of fur we're actually seeing is fake fur," she said. "It's a
growing trend."
