AR-News: (US-ca)Accused rat hoarder to stand trial

The Menlo Park man accused of hoarding hundreds of rodents in his home
truly loved his pets but did not care for them adequately and even
purposely killed some, according to animal specialists.

Robert Patrick Hollywood, 46, fed some live baby mice down his garbage
disposal and smashed another under his heel, witnesses testified during
his preliminary hearing yesterday.

Judge John Runde used the testimony to order Hollywood to stand trial on
four felony and two misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty. Hollywood twice
underwent mental evaluations before the hearing and each time he was
declared able to aid in his own defense.
