AR-News: (US-ga)Animal control expands countywide; 191 strays picked up in January

 Polk County’s animal control program is now a reality and many people are
finding that pets are not only property but have rights. Regina Taylor,
supervisor, said this isn’t new to her since she worked with the City of
Rockmart for several years in the same field.

James Short, animal control officer, said he is surprised at the number of
laws and codes that he must observe in his new job. “People must be
responsible pet owners,” he said. Officer Jeff Crawford has discovered
that many residents don’t understand animals have rights. “There are laws
to keep a pet from being abused.”
