AR-News: (N. Ireland) Farmers are called on to help wildlife

THE Ulster Wildlife Trust (UWT) wants more Northern Ireland farmers to get 
involved in the Countryside Management Scheme.
The trust is urging farmers and landowners to find out more about how they 
can receive financial support for becoming more wildlife friendly.
This is the fourth year of the scheme which provides grants for taking simple 
steps towards reversing the decline of native wildlife species and their 
habitats. 
Dermot Hughes, Director of Programmes at UWT, said: "The Irish hare and the 
barn owl are dependant on the farmland habitats of rough, unimproved and 
species rich grassland to survive.
