New zoning regulations aimed at controlling bird flu will be implemented in
Saraburi next month. The zoning will classify places where chickens, ducks,
geese and other birds are raised for eggs, for meat, for sport and as pets. After
the pilot project is implemented in Saraburi it will be applied nation-wide.
The zoning rules are intended to keep bird-raising sites safe from disease,
deputy Agriculture Minister Newin Chidchob said yesterday at a seminar on the
zoning plan. Academics, chicken farmers, exporters and health officials
attended the seminar.
Newin said that owners of pet birds and fighting cocks would have to register
their pets. "Fighting cocks would have microchips implanted and their breed
would be identified," he said.
