The fur continues to fly over the murder of a dog after its killer walked
free with little more than a slap on the wrist. Calgary SPCA officials said
Elizabeth Campbell-Brown, who shot Ziggy the black Lab at its owners' Chestermere
home 18 months ago, should be subject to a stiffer penalty along with anyone
else who is violent toward animals.
"Humane Societies across the country have been working for 20 years to get
the laws changed," said SPCA spokeswoman Cheryl Wallach.
Charges of animal cruelty carry a penalty of up to six months in jail or a
$2,000 fine.
