AR-News: (IN) Corporator wants stray dogs killed

February 17 DOG lovers, sharpen your claws. A civic corporator is planning
to move Supreme Court seeking a review of the high court’s earlier
decision to ban the killing of stray dogs.

Bandra corporator Bala Sawant, also chairperson of the Law Committee of
the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, says the rising number of stray
dogs and cases of dog bite prompted his move.

Expectedly, there’s opposition from animal lovers. According to Anuradha
Sawhney, chief functionary of the People for the Ethical Treatment of
Animals (PETA), ‘‘Stray dogs will congregate where there is garbage. The
civic body should come out with plans to clear garbage bins, then go to
court.’’
