**ACTION ALERT**
JOIN US FOR A VERY IMPORTANT EVENT ON WED. MARCH 3RD

Please mark your calendars for a major event to raise
our voices
against the massive seal slaughter in Canada occurring
this winter. While
we all hoped that the clubbing of baby seals stopped
years ago, the
horrible truth is that it has not only resumed, but
Canada last year
announced that they will allow almost a million seals
to be clubbed or shot
to death in the next three years.

We need YOUR HELP now! We must get the attention of
the Canadian
government. We need to go to the embassy to let them
know Americans DO care
and we will not give up in our effort to stop this
slaughter.

Please join us on Wednesday, March 3rd, at 11:30 am
for a peaceful
rally at the Canadian Embassy at 501 Pennsylvania Ave.
NW, in Washington,
DC, (near both the Gallery Place-Chinatown and the
Archives-Navy
Memorial Metro stops) to raise awareness of the plight
of the seals.
Campaign t-shirts and posters will be provided.

The hunt officially started November 15, but the
majority of the
killing occurs in mid-March. We hope to get the
message out that this is a
national shame for Canada. We can only do that if we
can get a BIG
CROWD there. Can you please join us? Can you bring
your friends,
co-workers, and your family? This will be a great
event - we are going to
educate the public and let the Canadian embassy know
they can't sweep this
under the rug. EVERY ONE IS NEEDED.

Please call us with any questions or for any
information you need.
Contact Andrea Cimino at 301-258-3109 (or acimino at
hsus.org) today. Even
if you've never gone to a rally before, you should
come to this one.
We can't sit by and let this continue - it will take
each one of us
taking action, to stop it. For more information on
this campaign, go to
www.protectseals.org

I look forward to meeting you there on Wed, March 3rd
when we all will
speak for the seals.

If you can not attend, please support those
protesting this massacre
by help by calling the the Canadian Embassy on Wed.
March 3 and asking
them to end the bloody, needless business of the seal
hunt.

	Backround:

Hunters cannot legally kill seal pups who still have
their whitecoats,
but its perfectly legal to kill two-week-old pups who
are weaned and

have just begun shedding their white fur. They are
killed with
rifles
(many escape after being shot, only to fall off the
ice floes and
drown) or with Hakapiks - a large club with an ice
pick like piece attached
to penetrate a seals skull. Even more shocking,
independent
veterinarians who observed the hunt in 2001 studied
carcasses left behind and
concluded that as many as 40% of the seals killed were
skinned alive. This
gruesome killing MUST STOP.
