The company is also applying this technology to the development of the 
ultimate needle-less injection.

It plans to genetically engineer fruit to immunise against certain diseases. 
It is investigating the development of edible vaccines for diseases such as 
hepatitis, cholera, diarrhoea, various cancers and auto-immune diseases. 

Nexgen derives revenue from its GMO testing kits and services, which detect 
the presence of genetically modified constituents or ingredients in food and 
crops. 

This side of the business is benefiting from a growing body of international 
legislation requiring clear labelling of food made with genetically engineered 
crops.

• The East of England has been identified as a template for success by the 
city of Andong, one of 13 new bio-clusters established by the South Korean 
government. 

An eleven-strong delegation, including the Mayor recently visited Cambridge 
Science Park and St John’s Innovation Centre. The visit was hosted by Cambridge 
Visits and ERBI.
