A Papua New Guinea environment group says the country's timber industry is
out of control and only a commission of inquiry can uncover the depth of the
problem.

P-N-G's Eco-Forestry forum says it's concerned about police abuses and
illegal immigration.

The Eco-forestry forum, which holds one of the seats on the P-N-G Forest
Authority board, says the government needs to clear its own name, and deal with
the potential security implications.

P-N-G's Forests Minister Patrick Pruaitch says as far as the government is
concerned, all logging operations in the country are legal.
