The plight of a helpless kitten who became a punching bag for a cruel human
is pulling at the heartstrings of Calgarians. The defenseless orange tabby was
rescued by the Humane Society last week, near death, after weeks of being
brutally beaten.
Dakota, who is nearly five months old, is now getting good care and building
up strength at the Humane Society while the phones are ringing off the hook
from animal-lovers offering to take him home.
His prognosis is still uncertain.
"There have been tons of calls," said Society spokeswoman Cheryl Wallach.
"Some people are horrified and wanting changes to animal cruelty laws, some
are interested in adopting the cat, and others are calling to say they are
happy we are there for the animals."
