[from Towanda Daily Review]

TOWANDA -- The state House of Representatives took the first step toward
adopting Rep. Matt Baker's proposed constitutional amendment to guarantee
the right to hunt and fish within the Commonwealth.
...
"Certain groups are leading an all-out assault state by state to crush the
right to hunt and fish throughout the country," Baker said. He added that
in New Jersey a lawsuit has been filed to end all hunting in the state and
other bans are appearing in Maine.
...
Animal-rights groups say they just want to stop what they consider the
most inhumane practices, according to The Associated Press, such as the
use of steel-jawed traps and the organized hunting of exotic animals for fees.

Wayne Pacelle, senior vice president for the Humane Society of the United
States, said he believed the amendment would be meaningless anyway.

Baker said the amendment would not be meaningless, although Pennsylvania
is not currently in a crisis situation.
