Hillside Middle is home to 30 exotic species

NORTHVILLE — A specially constructed room at Hillside Middle School houses 
more than 30 exotic animals, so it’s called the “animal room.” 
Discussing an inhabitant of that region, Hillside Assistant Principal Laura 
Kelly explained what role Julius Squeezer, the Burmese python, and his pals 
play in education. 
“If you’re going to teach life science, you need to have life around,” Kelly 
said. 
Thanks to Hillside science teacher Dwight D. Sieggreen, the 790 students 
there get to see, touch and hear wildlife — and preserve endangered frogs, too. 
And it doesn’t cost taxpayers a dime.
