Lamar-Dixon hosts high school rodeo

GONZALES -- More than 400 high school rodeo contestants from throughout Louisiana will be participating in the ninth annual Southeast Louisiana High School Rodeo at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.
The students will be competing for more than $5,000 in prizes and the chance to qualify for state and national high school rodeo finals.
The rodeo will be held Feb. 28-29.
The festivities will begin at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 28 with the introduction of area cowboys and cowgirls. The first rodeo performance follows.
A second full performance begins at 1:00 p.m. Feb. 29. There will also be cowboy church services prior to the performance at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Girls will be competing in barrel racing, pole bending, breakaway roping and goat tying.
The boys' events include bull riding, bareback and saddle bronc riding, calf roping and steer wrestling.
Boys and girls will compete in team roping and cutting competitions.
Special entertainment will be provided by the Gerry Lane Youth Riders Association.
The Southeast Louisiana High School Rodeo Association is an organization that supports students who participate in high school rodeo in Louisiana.
