New Delhi, Feb 12 (IANS) :

Animal rights activists have a message for Valentine's Day celebrants - have
a heart for animals too.

But their message of "vegetarianism" seemed to have had few takers in the
Indian capital Thursday.

"This Valentine's Day raise the love bar a notch higher. Love not just people
but also animals," said People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
campaigns coordinator Dilpreet Beasley.

When five PETA activists, including one dressed as Cupid, carried placards
and handed out brochures at the busy Connaught Place shopping district, curious
onlookers remained a bewildered lot.

"Yeh murga kyon bana hua hai, bhai? (Why is he dressed like a cock?),"
questioned a visibly surprised Rajesh Kumar, a worker at the Delhi Metro pointing
out to 'Cupid'.
