ANIMAL rights activists have been warned the Victorian Farmers Federation
(VFF) intends to sue them.
"We are planning to send a clear message to the radicals within the animal
rights lobby that all forms of advocacy, no matter how important must be
undertaken legally," VFF Livestock president, Simon Ramsay said.
"This legal action seeks to protect the live export trade and the farm
businesses that are threatened by the illegal tactics of radical animal activists,"
he added.
The VFF legal action is possible because it has gained funding through the
Australian farmers Fighting Fund.
Mr Ramsay said VFF livestock representatives would meet shortly with legal
counsel to discuss the framework required to initiate legal action.
Mr Ramsay said the success in gaining AFFF funding demonstrated farmers would
no longer tolerate disruptions to their farm business.
The live export industry was a lawful form of agricultural trade, he added,
employing more than 9000 people and generating more than $1 billion.
"The world is a dangerous place,
not because of those who do evil,
but because of those who look on and do nothing.",
