TORONTO (AP) _ A disturbing anti-meat commercial that shows a chick getting
debeaked has run afoul of the organization that clears TV ads for Canada's
private broadcasters.

Although the 30-second spot by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is
running on several American stations, the group says the Television Bureau of
Canada decided the commercial was "just too graphic" and would anger Canadian
viewers.

"Its depiction of violence to animals has caused us to reject it," the
bureau's president, Jim Patterson, said Tuesday.

The bureau says the spot depicts "brutality against animals" and would spark
"major complaints" if aired, PETA said.

The country's public broadcaster, the CBC, was still deciding Tuesday whether
the spot would fly although the expectation was it, too, would say no.

PETA, which referred to the TV bureau as "censors," made news last month when
Canadian billboard companies nixed the group's ad against Kentucky Fried
Chicken.
