Animal cruelty case going to grand jury

WILLIAMSTOWN - A divorced couple accused of animal cruelty will go before a grand jury which will decide if any charges will be filed Wednesday in Grant County. 

More than 100 dogs, some of them stolen, and six horses were found on property belonging to Ken Sunbom of Grant County and his ex-wife, Tanya Moukaddem of Harrison County, authorities said. 

A veterinarian's examination found that many of the dogs had been abused or neglected. 

Moukadden also faces charges in Harrison County for failure to obtain a kennel license, which is in violation of her probation on an earlier theft conviction. 

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals urged Commonwealth's Attorney James Crawford to "vigorously prosecute" the case. 

"The way a person treats animals is highly indicative of how they'll treat other people," said Daniel Paden, a PETA caseworker.
