Albany -
They are called hoarders, people who collect cats until their homes become
very unpleasant places to live. It's a place that pushes the limits of
unsanitary conditions.
Neighbors complained of the smell of cat urine, and that is what betrayed
Ramona Taschler. Authorities say Taschler collected thirty five cats over the
past year. Albany Animal Control officers are collecting them, taking them to the
Heartland Humane Society in Corvallis for proper care.
It's something animal experts say they have seen before. "There's a very
small percentage of people who believe that they love animals but put them in
situations that are actually cruel," says Kerry Mullins of Heartland\the cats are
being treated for fleas, worms and a laundry list of health problems.
It's similar to another case, this one at this Corvallis house in January,
where more than fifty cats were collected. Some of those cats died.
