NINOY AQUINO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – The Bureau of Quarantine yesterday
burned 345 African lovebirds from The Netherlands after records showed that the
aircraft in which it came, passed through a country which is suffering from the
Avian flu or bird flu.

The lovebirds arrived in the country last Feb. 4 on a Kuwait Airlines flight
from The Netherlands via Bangkok, Thailand.
Upon arrival however, Bureau of Customs officials immediately ordered the
shipment held after records showed that the aircraft passed through Bangkok, one
of several Asian countries found positive for the bird flu virus.
The domesticated birds were shipped into the country by certain Henry
Villalon of 5 Bulakeña Village, Marilao, Bulacan. The shipment was accompanied by a
Veterinary Health Certificate, a CITES document from the country of origin, an
import permit from the Philipppine Animal Welfare Bureau (PAWB), and BPI
import permit.
