To say that Art Beck is an avid hunter, or even that hunting is his passion,
doesn't come close to describing his devotion to the sport. "A way of life"
would be more accurate, since it's so ingrained in his personality, from the
food he eats, to the books he reads, to the plaid shirts and "Colt
Revolvers" belt buckle he wears every day.
Beck has been a hunter for so long, it has even shaped the way he looks.
"I'm so used to carrying a rifle on this shoulder, it sags," he says,
patting the top of his right arm, which actually does sit slightly lower
than the left. "I don't even think I could walk through the bush without a
rifle now," the spry 76-year-old says with a chuckle.
Descending into the basement of Beck's Huntington Hills home is like
entering a miniature hunting lodge.
