Sufficient help is available to ranchers decimated financially and
emotionally by the mad cow crisis, says the Alberta Beef Producers. That assurance came
in the wake of a ranching family southeast of Lethbridge blaming mad
cow-related stress earlier this week for the emaciation of much of their herd.
It led SPCA officials Wednesday to descend on the New Dayton farm and
euthanize about 50 cattle.
More were found either dead, or very ill from a lack of adequate food water,
shelter or care, according to enforcement director Morris Airey.
"You can't allow your animals to suffer," said spokesman Ron Glaser.
