As the global fur revival consolidates, with fox, sable and bobcat
flaunted on fashion runways worldwide, one of the most astounding
developments may be the return of the quite-recently quite-unfashionable
mink coat.
Not grannys ungainly big brown, mind, but sleek, chic, fitted coats,
brightly dyed perhaps, sheared to look like velvet, or laced with leather,
chiffon or feathers.
...
Those decades saw fur flop and fall from dizzying heights to a fashion
no-no in the 1980s - thanks to ecocomic recession, warm winters, poor
tailoring, animal rights protests and back-to-nature grunge - and then
bounce back in the late 1990s as luxury high-flier once again. At the Vest
family farm a short ride out of Copenhagen, Anna-Lisa Vest appropriately
was wearing mink as she trod across overnight snow to show off her couple
of thousand minks, one out of every four or five of them, big plump male
breeders. She has two mink coats already but Id love a silver mink.
