DAVIS -- Mike Cawley, Davis High School Principal, "Sometimes people do
stupid things."

That's the only explanation Davis High School Principal Mike Cawley has
for the crime spree on campus last weekend.
...
For Davis police, students and staff, it's what happened in the school's
barn, run by the Future Farmers of American Club, that's disturbing many.
Someone decapitated a rabbit, then mutilated it and left it on school grounds.

Lt. Harritt says, "They've got to be pretty sick."
...
Animal rights groups, including PETA and the Human Society are also
outraged. Today, they stepped up with a $5,000 reward for anyone with
information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Any type of animal cruelty, including mutilation, is considered a felony
in California, with fines up to $25,000 and possible prison time.

Lt. Harritt says, "They start doing that to animals -- and then soon to
other things."
