LETHBRIDGE -- Alberta SPCA officers seized almost 100 starving cows from a
ranch in the New Dayton area that was littered with dead animals, officials say.
When officers arrived at the farm southeast of Lethbridge on Wednesday, they
found a number of dead cows scattered around the property. More were "in very
poor condition" and had to be destroyed, said Morris Airey, director of
enforcement.
"The offence under the Animal Protection Act is distress, where there is not
adequate food, water, shelter or care," said Airey.
The owner of the ranch said that officials shot about 50 of her cows.
