A dog that died after eating something off the ground in a popular Riverdale
park ingested pesticide, a source familiar with the autopsy report on the
animal says.
The source said yesterday tests on T-Bone, a 12-pound Cavalier King Charles
spaniel, found organophosphates, a group of closely related pesticides that
affect the function of the nervous system.
"It was a very toxic form of pesticide," the source said, adding it's still
unknown whether the substance was intentionally placed in Withrow Park.
T-Bone died Monday, less than a day after eating something in the park. More
than a dozen other dogs — including one reported to police yesterday — became
ill on the weekend after playing in or near the off-leash area.
Two children also became ill after tobogganing in the park, but police aren't
certain the cases are related.
