ST. MARTIN -- A Vancleave woman will stand trial at 9 a.m. today for 20
counts of animal abuse brought against her after an Oct. 30 raid.
Jackson County Justice Court Judge Cecil Byrd will preside over the trial
of Jeanne Huston, a Vancleave animal breeder who allegedly had 20
malnourished animals and two dead horses on her five-acre ranch.
Huston faces a maximum $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail for each
of the 20 counts of animal cruelty.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) organization sent
letters urging Assistant District Attorney Tim Jones to seek maximum
punishment for Huston. Huston's attorney, Briley Richmond, could not be
reached for comment.
