>From the PETA site:

The British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) went undercover
inside Covance, Inc., a contract testing laboratory in Munster, Germany,
with locations worldwide. Covance is using its muscle and money to stifle
the BUAV from showing the public what it found in the primate-poisoning
laboratory and has forced the organization to remove photos and video
footage of the terrified animals from its Web site.

Covance, Inc., is headquartered in the U.S. at 210 Carnegie Ctr., Princeton,
New Jersey. Its Web site, says that it has locations in 18 countries and
that it services 50 global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. In
the U.S., Covance has locations in Wisconsin, Virginia, Michigan,
Pennsylvania, and Texas.

While you won't be able to see what happens to the animals inside Covance's
German laboratory, you can easily see what the company thinks of the animals
it breeds, sells, poisons, and chops up by clicking here, where, under the
heading "What We Offer for Research Products," you will see that dogs,
rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, nonhuman primates, and pigs are listed as if
they were paper clips, copying machines, or Bunsen burners. Covance has even
obtained a trademark for its "Mini-MongrelTM."

Covance will conduct any of the typical battery of painful toxicity tests
for companies that make chemicals, drugs, pesticides, cosmetics, or
household goods. It offers acute oral, dermal and inhalation toxicity;
primary dermal and eye irritation; dermal sensitization; genotoxicity;
neurotoxicity; subchronic oral, dermal, and inhalation toxicity;
reproductive toxicity, including multigeneration and teratogenicity studies;
lifespan toxicity and oncogenicity (i.e., cancer studies), and
histopathology.

Similar tests are carried out at Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), a contract
testing laboratory investigated by PETA in 1996 that also has facilities in
New Jersey and Europe. And, just as Covance has done with BUAV, HLS used its
money and influence to keep PETA from showing the videotape that documented
the suffering endured by dogs and primates. Procter & Gamble even testified
against PETA in the court case that ensued. But, just as PETA won the fight
against HLS, we feel certain that our esteemed colleagues at BUAV will win
against Covance!

Please read the BUAV investigator's diary of what he found at Covance.
Cowardly Covance has threatened BUAV's Internet provider with legal action
if the videotape and photos of the primates appear on the Web site. Please
use your voice to make complaints to those authorities and contacts given on
the BUAV Web site.
