About 300 protected birds including Japanese white eyes and meadow buntings
were delivered to a rehabilitation cage in Tokyo between November and December
last year after being confiscated from poachers, it has been learned.
Police have recently clamped down on poachers, who continue to catch
protected birds to sell to bird shops or over the Internet.
Among the types of birds brought to the rehabilitation cage in Ome, western
Tokyo, were the Japanese white eye, the meadow bunting, the Eurasian siskin,
the varied tit, the Eurasian bullfinch, the Japanese grosbeak, and the coal tit,
whose capture is forbidden.
