Record cold weather this winter has aided the progress of Princeton
Township's deer cull, which could wrap up as soon as next week, Anthony DeNicola,
president of township contractor White Buffalo, said Monday.
"Things are going extremely well," said Mr. DeNicola. "I understand this
is the coldest January in 100 years in New Jersey, and it's reflected in the
deer's response to bait."
A total of 220 deer have been killed and a total of 35 does immunized in
the fourth year of Princeton Township's deer-management program, Mr. DeNicola
confirmed Monday. The fourth year of the program began Jan. 5.
According to Mr. DeNicola, the record-low temperatures are making deer
more inclined to feed at baited cull sites. "It gives us the leverage to reach
goal density," he said.
Mr. DeNicola said the cold weather can be challenging to him and his
staff, but it also compels everyone to work harder.
