Jaipur, The bird flu has taken its toll in Rajasthan, with sales and
prices of chickens registering a 40-50 percent drop, impacting on the
lives of not only those who eat it but also those who live by it. Poultry
experts said though the state had reported no evidence of the virus strain
seen in neighbouring Pakistan, the avian flu spreading across many Asian
countries had taken its toll in the state. "Around 8,000 to 10,000
chickens are sold daily in Jaipur. After news of the bird flu in Pakistan,
the sales have come down to 4,000-5,000 a day," said one poultry farmer.
...
If poultry farmers and restaurant owners are mourning, so are chicken eaters.

"I used to love chicken dishes, but now I am scared. The avian flu has
forced me to become vegetarian," said Jagdeep Singh.
