The pledge money will be used to implement phase two of the college's planned
expansion. Phase two includes an additional expansion of 33,000 square feet
to the Magruder Hall animal hospital. This additional animal hospital expansion
will add an isolation area for animals with contagious diseases, an arena for
lameness evaluation, a high-speed treadmill and research laboratories.
Offices, classrooms, an imaging area and storage space will also be constructed.
Dr. Howard Gelberg, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, said that
expanding Magruder Hall is critical in improving the quality of the Veterinary
College.
"The gift, coupled with other commitments, will allow us to modernize our
large animal facilities, which are largely unchanged since Magruder Hall was
built," Gelberg said. "The evaluation arena is particularly important, because it
will provide indoor diagnostic space with controlled conditions. That's a
major enhancement."
